1.) ATV on the Famous Hatfield-McCoy Trails

West Virginia is home to some of the most famous ATV trails in the country, the Hatfield-McCoy Trails. The trail system includes ten trails and runs through the West Virginia counties of Logan, Kanawha, Wyoming, McDowell, Mercer, Wayne, Lincoln, Mingo, and Boone. The closest trail system to Four Fillies Lodge is the Indian Ridge Trailhead located an hour from the lodge.
2.) Explore the Lost World Caverns

In Lewisburg, West Virginia an hour from Four Fillies Lodge, you can visit the Lost World Caverns and descend 120 feet below the Earth’s surface into the vast wonderland of stalactites and stalagmites. Here you can take a self guided tour through the caves or book a wild cave tour for the more adventurous explorers.
3.) Kayak the New River

Just twenty-five minutes down the road, guests of Four Fillies Lodge can rent kayaks, canoes, paddleboards, or river tubes and enjoy a day on the New River for only $25 per person. At the New River’s Edge, they also have great fishing opportunities.
4.) Babcock State Park

You may have seen this familiar photo of Babcock State Park’s Glade Creek Grist Mill. This iconic location is home to 4,127 acres of stunning scenery. In addition to visiting and photographing the mill, visitors can enjoy recreational activities such as hiking, mountain biking, and fishing nearby.
5.) Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine

The Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine takes you through what was once an operating coal mine. You can ride through the mine in a ‘man car’ while veteran miners tell you all about the responsibilities of past and present miners. In addition to the coal mine tour, guests can visit the Coal Camp which includes a restored coal camp house, miner’s shanty, church, school and more. There is also a youth museum and gift shop on site.
6.) Visit the Dirty Dancing Film Location
Thirty minutes down the road in Pembroke, Virginia, you can visit Mountain Lake Lodge, the location where the famous Dirty Dancing movie was filmed. You can check out the events that are taking place here, including their Dirty Dancing Weekends. Visitors can also dine at the Harvest Restaurant on site.
7.) Hike the Cascade Falls Trail

This 4 mile round trip hike takes you through the lush forest where you’ll find a gorgeous 66 foot waterfall waiting for you at the end of the hike. Visitors can also enjoy a picnic before or after the hike at the picnicking area located at the beginning of the trail where they will also find public restrooms.
8.) White Water Rafting

White water rafting on the New River and Gauley River is definitely one of the more adventurous summer things to do in West Virginia! River Expeditions is an outfitter that offers white water rafting, as well as so many other activities. They offer a variety of rafting packages for the beginner or experienced rafter.
9.) Book a Bridge Walk Tour
